David Walters is Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph. His primary areas of specialization include research methodology and the sociology of education. Dr. Walters has received several large grants to explore the labor market outcomes of recent immigrants, as well as school-to-work transitions of postsecondary graduates in Canada and the United States. He is currently investigating the employment prospects of university graduates with disabilities. His research is published in prominent international peer-reviewed journals, and is regularly covered by the media.
Professor Walters is also a dynamic and award winning teacher. At the undergraduate level he teaches courses in research methods, and at the graduate level he teaches a class in applied statistics. Most recently, he has become a cancer advocate on behalf of his late wife, Cheryl Walters, who he lost to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2012. David wrote Capture Your Imagination to share her vision of making the world a better place. He resides in Guelph, Ontario, where he is raising their two children, Christopher and Jenna.
